Miss McKinsey’s preschool classes celebrated international pirate day on Thursday, September 19. They danced a silly pirate song and did a pirate scarf dance. For morning work, they made pirate hats and colored pirate octopus/parrot. At circle time, they reviewed the letter A by watching Alphabet Island while their hats were assembled. At centers, they free played with toys and the buried shape treasure science sensory bin; and they also took turns making their pirates. At closing, they went on an alphabet treasure hunt and reviewed letters after all treasure was found; and they also read How I Became a Pirate.

Miss McKinsey’s preschool classes celebrated International Dot Day on Monday, September 16 which correlates with their shape of the week, a circle. The classes began the day by investigating the room for circles of all different sizes. At centers, the students painted with marshmallows and qtips; daubed A’s and learned objects that start with A (the letter of the week); and stuck circular stickers to a giant circle. They also read two dot themed books, The Dot & Put Me in the Zoo. They even snuck in circles to snack time, when they ate fruit gummies and chocolate donut holes. Some of their artwork is on display in the hallway for the week.

Beginning any instrument is tough, but trumpet is a hard feat to tackle and requires a quick air speed to work! Dr. B uses the ping-pong ball trick to visualize the air speed required to play a trumpet. If the player is using the correct speed, the ping-pong ball will stay suspended in the air for a few seconds. All of the beginning trumpets correctly demonstrated the trick! I promise they were not blowing bubble gum bubbles in their mouthpieces!!!
