Posted Date: 04/14/2021

Building Leadership within an organization is important to Superintendent Kellen Adams. In an effort to highlight how good leadership can impact an organization’s effectiveness, in and outside of Chanute Public  Schools, he initiated a video series: Leveraging Leadership – 30 minutes with Kellen Adams.

Links to his interviews with current CHS Principal Matt Koester, City Manager Jacob LaRue, Assistant Principal Brooke Wire, Matt Godinez, Director of the Chanute Regional Development Authority, and Kansas State’s Dean of Education Debbie Mercer, are listed below, along witih Kellen Adam’s rationale for making leadership a priority.

“Leadership matters,” Adams said.  “Imagine a building without a principal.kellen adams interviewing brooke wire Imagine going through a week or month without a principal. Will the school have a vision omission, a lack of direction? Will decision-making be aligned appropriately? Or will that organization function much less effectively? That is not how effective organizations work.”

Good leadership charts the course, sets the vision and executes decisions, he said. They also look for leadership qualities among their staff.

“We want leadership at all levels. You want some teacher leadership down every hallway,” he said.  The video series is about “growing the leadership and highlighting the efforts of those folks who have been leaders in their positions.”

Effective Leadership is essential in all organizations.

“I want different perspectives,” he said. “This is a chance for us to highlight different perspectives and opinions of people who have proven to be effective in their respective positions.”
