A new Superintendent of Schools was hired Friday, following a special evening meeting of the USD 413 Board of Education at the school board office.

Interim Superintendent Steve Parsons announced the school board’s decision to employ Dr. Kellen Adams, of El Dorado, as the new leader for Chanute USD 413 effective with the new fiscal year that begins July 1, 2019.

“The Board feels fortunate to have the opportunity to hire someone with the qualities of Dr. Adams,” said Parsons, in a statement released by the school baord. “The board feels that he is the best of a new generation of Superintendents and has a passion for education.

“The Board is thrilled with Dr. Adams' enthusiasm for maintaining the progressive approach to educational excellence which exists in our district (and) believes that he will maintain the core value of our district of "Students First!"

Though Dr. Adams will not join USD 413 until July 1, he plans to spend some time in the district prior to that so that he can "hit the ground running".

Dr. Adams was one of three candidates for Superintendent who had visited the school district earlier in the week, talking with administrators and staff and interviewing with school board members.
