A federal grant has the physical education teachers in Chanute Public Schools
revamping curriculum, activities and programs to make a greater impact on the
health of Chanute students.
Funds from a federal PEP grant coupled with the district’s renovation
and construction of new facilities are being used to get K-12 students MOVING
towards meeting Kansas standards for physical education and becoming more physically
fit.
The PE staff is working to enhance the curriculum to give students the knowledge
and skills to be physically active and lead healthy lives.
PEP funds will provide staff development, curriculum restructuring, buy fitness
circuits and equipment for elementary, middle, and high school physical education
programs, provide some afterschool programming and integrate with the district’s
wellness activities.
By incorporating interactive fitness games, introducing leisure activities,
healthy eating habits and behaviors, our children will be better prepared for
lifetime health.
