Harassment/Hazing/Discrimination Prohibited:
Kansas law
and USD # 413 board policy prohibits incidents involving initiations,
hazings,
intimidations,
bullying
and/or related
activities which are likely to cause bodily danger, physical
harm, personal degradation or disgrace resulting in physical or mental
harm, or which affect the attendance of another student.
The board of education is committed to providing a positive and
productive learning environment, free from any form of harassment
or discrimination based upon race, color, religion, or national
origin. Harassment shall not be tolerated in the school district.
Harassment of students by employees, other students of the district,
or others having business or other contact with the school district
is strictly prohibited.
All forms of harassment or discrimination are prohibited at school,
on school property, and at all school-sponsored programs or events.
Harassment may result from verbal or physical conduct or written
or graphic material. Harassment may include, but is not limited
to: verbal harassment or abuse; pressure for sexual activity; repeated
remarks to a person with sexual, racial, or demeaning implication;
unwelcome touching; or suggesting or demanding sexual involvement
accompanied by implied or explicit threats concerning a student’s
grades, participation in extra-curricular activities, etc.
All victims of harassment or discrimination and persons with knowledge
of such harassment or discrimination are encouraged to report the
incident immediately. They should report the incident to the building
principal, another administrator, the guidance counselor, or another
certified staff member. An investigation by the building principal
or assistant superintendent is required in order to resolve the
problem. If a satisfactory resolution cannot be reached the student
may file a formal complaint with the superintendent and further
investigation will be done. If a person’s alleged behavior
is found to be harassment, that person will be subject to discipline
under the employee or student code of conduct.
