Attendance Policy:
Regularity of attendance and punctuality is a very important
part of a student's education. The State of Kansas requires by
law that all children attend school. If a child is inexcusably absent
on either three consecutive days, five or more days in a semester
or seven school days in any school year, whichever occurs first,
the child shall be considered to be not attending school as required
by law and is truant. Schools are then required by law to report
non-attendance to either S.R.S. or the County Attorney.
Prior to reporting to either SRS (if a student is under 13) or
the county attorney (if the student is over 13), a letter shall
be sent to the student’s parent(s) or guardian notifying
them that the student’s failure to attend school without
a valid excuse shall result in the student being reported truant.
When a student is absent from school an attempt will be made to
contact the parent or guardian to determine the reason for the
absence. It is helpful if the parent or guardian contacts the school
early in the morning if the student is ill.
